Amusing, but not Austentatious
Nov. 29th, 2008 01:58 amLast night, DH was up for watching a movie and our cable tv was on the fritz...Thanks to YouTube, we watched a delightfully silly British series that aired last fall on ITV: Lost in Austen.
What happens when a modern woman with dreams of Austen accidentally switches places with Elizabeth from Pride & Prejudice? Initially, the heroine is delighted to get up close to her favorite characters, who end up having more nuanced personalities than Austen wrote. Then to her surprise, her Bridget Jones-like presence sends the plot off in unexpected ways. Needless to say, her efforts to fix the mess pretty soon make things worse.
A funny little parody. Some purists may object, but it is clearly the work of fans of the genre... We were both excessively diverted!
