I didn't get as much sewing time in this weekend as I expected. I noticed Saturday morning the car's license plates were expiring, so I dashed over to the division of motor vehicles. There, I found out that though my records showed we'd paid our taxes, the County had put a hold on our account, so I couldn't renew. I dashed over to the County government headquarters, waited in another line and got the account cleared. Then I went back to the DMV --but got there after they closed at 12. As maddening as this all sounds, I actually had a good time, listening to my IPOD and occasionally sewing an eyelet on my stays.

Then DH reminded me I was going to a friend's son's confirmation the next day--which I totally forgot. This little boy is disabled and hitting puberty has brought on a horrible seizure syndrome. Last winter, his mom brought him down to visit me when I was off working for two months in another part of the state--because she wanted to make sure I wasn't overwhelmed by work. I was so touched by that. Then the next day he went into grand mal seizures and briefly flatlined. That he is alive today is remarkable. I was delighted to attend the confirmation, which took place in a picture perfect historic 18th century church in the countryside (Jane Austen, I know, would have felt very much at home there). The weather was perfect and afterwards, they had a luncheon reception outdoors in the church's courtyard with homebaked goodies. On the way home, I passed a farmers market, got some fresh sheared llama wool, veggies and flowers.

When I got home, the stays were waiting for me. So, I cut my losses and decided to go ahead and pound in grommets in the front. Then I tried them on...

Now, I got this set fitted about a year and a half ago. I'd forgotten that last winter, when living in the hotel, I lost about 10 lbs. I probably lost some other weight as well and it was enough to make the stays fit a bit too large. However, when I lace them up and draw them completely closed (still a loose fit), I can get into my new caracao, which is really all I need at this point. I think the back is slightly too high (I'll try to get a pic taken tonight) and they still need binding, but with those minor changes they should be acceptable for use, even if they are slightly too big.

Life is very good, even if my sewing progress isn't!
